Volunteering

“Following early retirement, I started volunteering after a Driving Experience arranged by my wife. I’ve been a lifelong railway enthusiast and have worked as a Guard and Diesel Driver, assisted at Special Events, but now I spend most days volunteering with the Track Gang! The best bits are sharing my time with like minded enthusiasts, meeting visitors and drinking copious amounts of tea!”

Fast forward 5 years and I am now one of the railway’s Volunteer Coordinators, covering jobs such as inducting new volunteers, training new Steam Drivers and event planning. The team at the ELMR are a second family, and I have lifelong friends as a result.”
